Connecting a CRM
Connect pushes each form submission straight into a connected CRM as a new or updated contact — no PSA ticketing, no data warehouse, just a simple contact push. Two CRMs are supported today: Zoho CRM and HubSpot. Both are configured from the plugin's OtterContact Connect screen (WordPress: top-level OtterContact Connect menu; Joomla: Components → OtterContact Connect), under CRM Connections.
Zoho CRM
Zoho uses a Self Client (Client Credentials grant) — there's no "Generate Code" step, no redirect URI, and no refresh token to manage. The plugin requests a fresh access token transparently whenever the cached one is missing or expired.
- In the Zoho API Console for your account's data center, choose Add Client → Self Client. Zoho creates it immediately.
- Open the new Self Client and copy its Client ID and Client Secret.
- Find your Org ID in Zoho CRM under Setup → Company Details → Zoho CRM Org ID.
- Back in the Zoho CRM section of the Connect settings screen, enter the
Client ID, Client Secret, and Org ID, then set Data Center to
wherever your Zoho account actually lives —
.com,.eu,.in,.com.au, or.jp. This has to match the account, not just your location; a mismatch is the most common cause of a connection failing. - Leave Scope on its default unless you have a reason to change it — it already covers what Connect needs to create and update contacts.
- Click Save & Test Connection. A green checkmark next to Zoho CRM means the plugin successfully obtained an access token — that's the "Connected" confirmation.
HubSpot
HubSpot is authenticated with a Private App access token — no OAuth flow involved.
- In HubSpot, go to Settings → Integrations → Private Apps (on some accounts this has moved under a Legacy Apps section — either location leads to the same Private Apps builder) and Create a private app.
- Under Scopes, grant
crm.objects.contacts.read,crm.objects.contacts.write, andcrm.schemas.contacts.read. - Create the app and copy the Access Token it generates — HubSpot only shows this once.
- Paste the token into the HubSpot field on the Connect settings screen and save. There's no data center or Org ID concept for HubSpot, so this is the whole setup.
Next step
Once a CRM shows as connected, head to Mapping form fields to link one of your forms to it. If a connection won't go through, see Troubleshooting.
