Connecting Mailchimp

1. Find your API key

In Mailchimp, go to Account → Extras → API keys. Create a key if you don't already have one — you'll paste the whole string, including the -us21-style suffix at the end.

2. Paste it into the plugin

Open the plugin's Connect tab (Settings → OtterContact → Connect) and paste the key into the Mailchimp field, then save.

• WordPress: the field is masked once a key is saved — leaving it blank on a later save keeps the existing key rather than clearing it.
• Joomla: same behavior, under Components → OtterContact → Connect.

3. Confirm it's connected

A Connected badge appears above the field once the key is accepted. If you don't see it, double-check the key was copied in full — see Troubleshooting for the most common cause.

4. Pick an audience

When you create or edit a form, select Mailchimp as the provider and choose which audience (list) new subscribers should join.
